Milan (pronounced MY-lan, not like the Italian city) is a small city of about 6,200 residents that straddles the Monroe and Washtenaw county line, eighteen miles northeast of our Tecumseh shop. The town was platted in the 1830s along the railroad and the Saline River, and downtown still carries the original brick storefronts.

Milan is best known regionally for two things: Milan Dragway, a quarter-mile drag strip operating since 1962 just east of town, and the Federal Correctional Institution on the south edge. Beyond those, it's a quiet residential community with strong school district pride, a mix of older village homes, mid-century ranches, and newer subdivisions on the township edges.
